It's been a little while since Lovie Smith and his staff have landed a verbal commitment, but the program has continued to be involved with several highly-regarded high school players. They received some more good news on Sunday, when four-star athlete Russ Yeast (IN) narrowed his list to six schools. In addition to the Fighting Illini, Yeast is also considering Iowa, Northwestern, Louisville, Ole Miss, and Auburn.

Yeast, the son of former Kentucky star Craig Yeast, had originally committed to play for the Wildcats last July. It sounds like his change of heart was at least partially due to the team's expected 2017 depth chart.
Though Scout has pegged Yeast as a four-star prospect, the 247Sports composite rankings have him in the high three-star range (No. 388 overall).
According to Scout's Allen Trieu, Yeast intends to visit all six of his finalists within the next two weeks. Obviously, though, that doesn't 100% guarantee a trip to Champaign, so hopefully Lovie Smith is given an opportunity to make an on-campus pitch before a decision is reached.
