One of Fighting Illini football's offensive line targets is headed to the SEC. Per his Twitter account, three-star prospect Bryce Bailey (Newburgh, IN) has given a verbal commitment to the Vanderbilt Commodores. The 6-foot-5, 290-pound lineman is rated as the No. 860 overall player in 247Sports' class-of-2017 composite rankings. Bailey had other Power 5 scholarship offers from Illinois, Iowa State, Purdue, and Syracuse.

With my recruiting process coming to an end, it gives me a chance to thank all of the people that have helped me throughout my football career. First I want to thank all of my youth league coaches for helping me develop a love of football. I'd also like to thank the Castle Football coaches and community for the love and support. I feel greatly honored to have been recruited by so many great schools. I appreciate all of the coaches and recruiters that reached out and made connections with me. Lastly, I would like to thank my family, especially my mom, dad, sister, and girlfriend for investing much in me and supporting me throughout this whole process.

This loss stings a bit for the Fighting Illini because they're still looking to add several more lineman during this recruiting cycle. The program has other targets, sure but, Bailey was probably one of the more realistic options at this point in time. The good news is that it's only June, so Lovie Smith and his assistants have plenty of time to add other pieces alongside three-star commit Vederian Lowe.
