Indiana vs. Illinois Final Score: Hoosiers come alive in second half, destroy Illini 74-47

The Illini are now 12-16, 4-11 on the season.

Mike Granse-USA TODAY Sports

The Illinois Fighting Illini (12-16, 4-11) entered halftime with a slim one-point lead over the No. 18 Indiana Hoosiers (23-6, 13-3), but they couldn't hold it together over the final twenty minutes of play. In fact, they weren't even close. Indiana's shooters caught fire after a sluggish start and propelled the team to a Big Ten-leading 13th conference victory by a final score of 74-47.

This was Indiana's second victory over Illinois this season; the first matchup was a 103-69 beatdown back in January. So that means, barring a surprise meeting in the Big Ten Tournament, the Hoosiers have swept the season series.

Jalen Coleman-Lands led Illinois with 21 points, 2 assists on 7-13 shooting. Indiana's best performer was senior guard Yogi Ferrell, who had 27 points, 5 rebounds, and 5 assists.

Indiana defenders were swarming Malcolm Hill the entire night and he was limited to only 5 points on 2-7 shooting. This was just the second time all season that Hill was prevented from reaching double figures.

Illinois' next game is on Sunday, February 28 against the Minnesota Golden Gophers (currently 8-19, 2-13). That will be the final home contest of the season, so you can look forward to 'Senior Night' festivities for Mike Thorne Jr., Khalid Lewis, and Mike LaTulip.
