During his Friday afternoon teleconference with, Illinois head coach John Groce informed media members that senior center Mike Thorne Jr. (knee) and sophomore forward Leron Black (knee) are still out indefinitely and will miss the Northwestern game. Groce refused to officially rule the front court duo out for the season, but things certainly appear to be trending that way.
Sadly, Groce didn't address any potential lineup changes involving a certain freshman guard, but below are some of the other highlights from the teleconference. You can listen to the entire ten minutes above.
- The 'bye week' was good for the team; it allowed both Kendrick Nunn and Michael Finke to recover a bit more from their recent injuries.
- Groce stated that D.J. Williams had perhaps his best practice on Thursday, and that he's improved a great deal over the past few weeks.
- Groce gave a brief preview of the Northwestern Wildcats; He mentioned sophomore point guard Bryant McIntosh, senior guard Tre Demps, and senior center Alex Olah as players that the Illini need to contain.
