2016 defensive back Harvey Clayton Jr. commits to Illinois over Louisville, Temple

Clayton is Illinois' fourth commitment of the day.

Fighting Illini football's busy day isn't over. Via his Twitter account, Florida defensive back/wide receiver Harvey Clayton Jr. announced his verbal commitment to Illinois. The six-foot-two, 187 lb. prospect is rated as a three-star recruit by 247Sports and he held scholarship offers from Louisville and Temple, among others.

Clayton is Illinois' fourth verbal commitment of the day; the others are Three-star offensive lineman Eddy Fishthree-star linebacker De'le Harding, and three-star defensive lineman Izon Pulley.

Scouting Report

"Clayton Jr. provides Bill Cubit and Illinois with intriguing size and length in the back end at free safety. The 6-foot-2, 190-pound Clayton has good range, and really does a nice job of getting to his spot and tracking the football through the air. "

"Clayton also flashes good body control and balance when diving to the grass to make acrobatic interceptions. He's a kid that's always willing to lay out and make that big play on the defensive side of the ball. Clayton is a good athlete, but not a great athlete. Getting stronger and playing with more physicality in the run game are things he needs to continue to work on as well, but this is a kid that's coveted for his ability to cover ground and make plays on the football."
