Fighting Illini football has missed out on another of their recruiting targets. Three-star defensive end Nelson Mbanasor (TX) gave a verbal commitment to Texas Tech on Tuesday night, selecting the program over the likes of Illinois, Arkansas, and others.

"I want to thank God, all my family, coaches, fans and the schools who offered me a scholarship. I formed great relationships with many schools and coaches, but one really stuck out to me. A school that can better me not only as a player but a student as well. I would like to announce that I am committing to THE Texas Tech University and enrolling in the Spring of 2017!"
The 6-foot-3, 250-pound prospect is rated as the nation’s No. 991 overall player by 247Sports. Mbanasor has other notable scholarship offers from Oklahoma State, Colorado, Duke, Houston, Indiana, Kansas, Louisiana Tech, Purdue, and SMU.
Mbanasor took an official visit to Champaign last weekend, so a coinciding announcement just days later seemed to be good news for the Orange and Blue. That clearly wasn’t the case this time around.
