The Fighting Illini remained undefeated on Tuesday night with a 122-65 victory over McKendree (D-II), and they did so with a record offensive performance. Illinois made 16 three-point shots, which tied a program record that was originally set against Arizona on March 26, 2005.
Led by Jalen Coleman-Lands (18 points) and Maverick Morgan (18 points), six members of the Orange and Blue reached double-figures during the blowout. Michael Finke (17 points), Tracy Abrams (14 points), Aaron Jordan (11 points), and Mike Thorne Jr. (10 points) were the others.
Tuesday night also featured our first extended look at Te’Jon Lucas, and it was well worth the wait. The freshman point guard logged 9 points and 6 assists on an extremely efficient 4-4 shooting.
Malcolm Hill had an uncharacteristically poor night; the senior totaled just 3 points on 1-7 shooting from the field in 23 minutes.
Illinois’ next game will be on Friday night when they host Detroit as part of the 2016 NIT Season Tip-Off. The contest is scheduled to begin at 7:00pm CT, and it’ll be broadcasted on ESPN3.
