As the early-signing period comes to a close, Fighting Illini basketball is looking to move forward from back-to-back loses on the recruiting trail. The latest blow came on Monday night, when three-star forward Mayan Kiir (FL) gave a commitment to the VCU Rams; the 6-foot-9 prospect was also considering Illinois, Louisville, LSU, and N.C. State. Kiir is rated as the nation’s No. 143 overall player by 247Sports.

“First off I would like to thank all of my family and friends who have supported me throughout this long process. I also want to thank all the great colleges who have been recruiting me over the past years. After putting a lot of thought [and] effort into choosing my next home for the oncoming years, today I am blessed to say that I have committed to Virginia Commonwealth University.”
