Illinois Football is a 36-point underdog against the No. 3 Michigan Wolverines

The first matchup since 2012 could get rather ugly.

Illinois is traveling to Ann Arbor this weekend to face No. 3 Michigan. You know, the team that recently eviscerated Rutgers by a final score of 78-0. The Fighting Illini just defeated those same Scarlet Knights on the road, but depending on how much stock you put into Vegas odds, this Saturday still has a chance to be historically bad for the Orange and Blue.

According to 5Dimes Sportsbook, Jim Harbaugh’s Wolverines are currently listed at -36. Assuming that value holds steady though kickoff, it’ll be Illinois’ largest underdog designation since 2005 (+36.5 against Ohio State).

Michigan is the No. 1 overall team in the updated S&P+ rankings. While Football Study Hall’s advanced stats project a final score of 43.2 - 3.2 in favor of the Wolverines, the Fighting Illini have been given a 1% likelihood of victory in Ann Arbor. So, yeah, I guess there’s a chance.

I think we can all agree that Michigan is the clear favorite, but what do you think of the current line? Make sure to cast your vote in the poll question, and let us know what you think in the comments.
