Illinois guard Khalid Lewis expected to play against Michigan State

The senior guard has missed the last two games with illness.

During his media session on Wednesday afternoon, Illinois head coach John Groce informed the media that senior guard Khalid Lewis will be active for the team's game against Michigan State on Thursday. Lewis has missed the last two games after being diagnosed with the mumps.

Lewis, who had taken over a majority of the minutes at point guard before his illness, is averaging 3.7 points and 3.2 assists per game. So this is pretty good news for an Illini team that's struggled to stay healthy this year.

Groce also provided brief updates on Mike Thorne Jr. and Leron Black.

Illinois (8-7, 0-2) will face No. 5 Michigan State (14-1, 1-1) on Thursday night at 8:00pm CT. The game will be televised on ESPN. Make sure to check out our Game Preview for more on the matchup.
