Three-star running back Kentrail Moran decommits from Illinois

The O'Fallon high school product made it official on Twitter.

Illinois' best class-of-2016 recruit has just decommitted from the program. Three-star running back Kentrail Moran took to Twitter on Friday afternoon to announce the re-opening of his recruitment; Moran originally gave a verbal to the Fighting Illini last March. The O'Fallon, IL product is rated as the No. 1 in-state tailback by 247Sports.

This decision has been rumored for a few months now, so it shouldn't really come as a surprise to fans who keep a close eye on the recruiting scene. It's also been rumored that this move was, in part, spurred on by some academic concerns that may have prevented Moran's enrollment at the university.

The silver lining for Illinois is that there are already plenty of other options at running back on the roster. However, the recruiting class has taken another substantial hit -- it's down to No. 64 nationally and No. 11 in the Big Ten.
