While it may have been overlooked due to Javon Pickett's commitment, Illinois football received their own huge news on Saturday night. While taking an official visit to Illinois, three-star tight end Zarrian Holcombe gave a verbal commitment to the Fighting Illini coaching staff. The six-foot-five, 215 lb. is originally committed to Texas A&M before changing his mind in October.
In addition to Illinois and Texas A&M, Holcombe also held scholarship offers from Texas, Oregon, Houston, California, Missouri, Washington, and Colorado. It's safe to say that this is the most impressive offer list from a current Illini commit. So it should come as no surprise that Holcombe is rated as the second-best player that Illinois has lined up for 2016.

There is plenty to like with Holcombe. For one, he has a large frame that will allow the coaching staff to work it to best suit the needs of the team. He could bulk and be more of the true tight end, but his skills set will allow him to play more of a role than just in the trenches. He is a match up nightmare. He has great ball skills and body control to put himself in position to catch passes while completely sealing off the DB or the LB
