Illinois vs. Kent State 2015: Game postponed to 1:00pm CT on Saturday

Because who wants to watch a night game anyways?

Mike Granse-USA TODAY Sports

So the start of the Illini season started with a bang, but not in the way one would hope. Champaign and the surrounding areas were hit by thunderstorms out of nowhere tonight, resulting in conditions unsafe for both play and watching football so the game was delayed.

Until now. It has been officially announced that the season opener against the Kent State Golden Flashes has been moved to a 1 PM start tomorrow afternoon instead of being played potentially at 1 AM. This is the right decision. Unfortunately, this means the game will not be televised. Yeah, I know.

So hey, unless you're in Champaign it looks like you're going to have to wait another week before you're able to see Bill Cubit's debut as the Fighting Illini's head coach. Andre 3000 was right when he said you can plan a pretty picnic but you can't predict the weather. We'll see you tomorrow in what will likely be the quietest gamethread ever.

Here's the press release via Illinois athletics:
