Each week the Illini in the NFL update provides coverage on how former Illinois football players -- who ended their college careers with the Illini -- fared during the previous week.

Here's how former Illini players performed in Week 3:

Jeff Allen (OT, Chiefs) - Allen played in his first game this season in a 38-28 loss against the Green Bay Packers. He was sidelined with a knee injury through first two weeks.

Alan Ball (DB, Bears) - Ball made nine tackles (five solo, four assists) and one pass deflection in a 26-0 to the Seattle Seahawks on the road.

Jeff Cumberland (TE, Jets) - Cumberland made two catches for 10 yards in a 24-17 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles.

Vontae Davis (CB, Colts) - Davis had four tackles (three solos, one assist), two pass deflections and one touchdown in a 35-33 win over the Tennessee Titans. It was the second straight week Davis allowed a score, but he was thrown down by Dorial Green-Beckham and no call was made. It was Davis' first game back after suffering a concussion against the Jets in Week 2.

Michael Hoomanawanui (TE, Patriots) - Hoomanawanui did not play this week.

Corey Liuget (DT, Chargers) - Liuget had three tackles (two solo, one assist) in a 31-14 loss to the Minnesota Vikings.

Whitney Mercilus (LB, Texans) - Mercilus had one tackle and one assist in a 19-9 win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Akeem Spence (DT, Buccaneers) - Spence did not play.

Hugh Thornton (OL, Colts) - Thornton made his first start of the season in the Colts' win over the Titans.

Tavon Wilson (FS, Patriots) - Wilson did not play this week.

Former Illini on Injured Reserve

John Asamoah (OL, Falcons) - Asamoah will miss the entire 2015 season with a hip injury. He started 15 games for the Falcons last season.

Arrelious Benn (WR, Jaguars) - Benn suffered a broken collarbone during the preseason and will miss the entire 2015 season.
