Illinois Recruiting: Three-star linebacker Tim Walton to announce college decision on Sunday

The Illini are looking to add another player to the fold this weekend.

Football

Tim Walton (Detroit, MI), a three-star outside linebacker from Michigan, will be announcing his college decision on Sunday during the halftime of his high school team's scrimmage. Illinois is Walton's only power five scholarship offer, but Cincinnati, Ball State, Navy, Western Michigan, Toledo, Buffalo, Kent State, and Eastern Michigan are also in the mix. So there's a pretty good chance that the Illini could receive another verbal this weekend.

Three-star offensive lineman Jake Cerny (Traverse City, MI) committed to the Illini on Sunday. He's the 13th member of the 2016 recruiting class; 247Sports has rated him as the fifth-best prospect committed to Illinois. You can click here to watch some of his highlights if you haven't done so already.

Three-star safety Bryce Banks (Columbia, MO) decommitted from Mizzou after taking a visit to Champaign last week. Banks holds offers from Illinois, Missouri, Western Michigan, Tulsa, and a few other schools--Florida State has also contacted him.

The Illini offered a scholarship to three-star athlete Donovan Duvernay (Sachse, TX) last week; he's the twin brother of Devin Duvernay, the No. 1 wide receiver in Texas. Interestingly enough, Illinois is one of just six programs to offer both players (Baylor, TCU, Michigan, Boise State, Kansas). Now I'm not saying that a package deal is in the works, but maybe things could get interesting if Illinois wins, like, 10 games this season.

Basketball

Jordan Goodwin (Belleville, IL) has stated that Illinois is his favorite school right now. The four-star wing is rated as the No. 78 overall recruit by 247Sports and is considered one of the top three in-state players by Joe Henricksen. Based on his comments, it certainly sounds like it's only a matter of time until Goodwin becomes the first member of the 2017 recruiting class. That information is coming straight from Twitter, but here's a link to the Illini Inquirer article ($$$) in case you're looking for more details.

Illinois has offered a scholarship to JUCO point guard Donovan Jackson (Milwaukee, WI); he currently attends Iowa Western Community College.

2016 point guard Xavier Simpson (Lima, OH) remains uncommitted after a visit to Iowa State last weekend. He's officially down to a list of seven schools, but two of those--Purdue and Xavier--have already accepted commitments from other point guards. Assuming Simpson doesn't add any last-minute schools to his list (i.e. Indiana, who just offered), then it's shaping up to be a potential two-horse race between the Illini and Cyclones.

Four-star 2016 point guard Bryce Aiken (Elizabeth, NJ) has cut his list to Illinois, Miami (FL), USC, Harvard, Michigan, and Seton Hall. Aiken is probably option No. 3a for Illinois behind Xavier Simpson and Charlie Moore, but he's still a very talented player. It sounds like the Illini will eventually get a visit (probably late August or early September), but don't hold your breathe for a commitment.

Lastly, I've added a new feature to our Illinois Basketball Recruiting Board. It's basically an interactive Google Map that marks every scholarship offer that the program has handed out. Nothing too special, but it's cool to see the different geographic areas the coaches are focusing on.
