The Illinois Fighting Illini had a historic 2015 season and they're being rewarded with their first national seed in program history. The Illini (47-8-1) have been given the No. 6 overall seed in the tournament and No. 1 seed in the Champaign Regional. They will face Ohio in their first contest on Friday, May 29th at 7:00pm CT.
The winner of Illinois/Ohio will face the winner of Notre Dame/Wright State. These four teams will compete in a double-elimination bracket, with the winner advancing to the Super Regionals (Sweet Sixteen).
Illinois won the Big Ten regular season championship for the 30th conference time in school history this season. This bid to the NCAA Tournament will be the program's 11th appearance, and third in the past five years.
