Illinois Baseball: Casey Fletcher named Big Ten co-player of the week

Illini senior hit .500 with five walks during 4-0 week for his team.

Thomas Nelshoppen of Illinois Baseball Report

The Illinois baseball senior Casey Fletcher was named Big Ten Co-Player of the Week, the conference announced Monday. Fletcher hit a team-high .500 with five walks during Illinois' 4-0 week that extended its school record and longest active winning streak in the nation to 17 games.

Fletcher shares the honor with Iowa's Jimmy Frankos. The Oakwood, Ill. native Fletcher scored five runs and had three RBI, including the game-winner in the 15th inning on Saturday at Penn State. He also posted three multi-hit games and posted a perfect fielding percentage over a four-game span against Eastern Illinois and Penn State.

This is the second time Fletcher has won the award, also doing so May 6 last season. Fletcher is the second Illini to earn the conference's weekly honor this season, joining junior Jason Goldstein.
