For the second straight week, the No. 8 Illinois baseball team are projected to host a NCAA regional by D1Baseball.com.
D1Baseball list Illinois (33-6-1) as the No. 1 seed in the regional followed by Ole Miss (21-20), Rice (26-16) and Wright State (28-10). The Illini swept Indiana (22-15), 5-1 and 6-3 on Friday and Saturday, respectively before the series finale was cancelled because of rain.
Illinois followed that up by cruising past Eastern Illinois 10-1 on Tuesday to extend the longest winning streak in the nation to 14 games.
The Illini hold a top 15 ranking all five major polls: No. 10 by NCBWA, No. 9 by D1Baseball, No 13 by Collegiate Baseball, No. 9 by Baseball America and No. 8 by USA Today Coaches' Poll.
Illinois will travel to Penn State (13-23, 2-9) on Friday for its first three-game conference road series since March 28-30, when they took two of three from Michigan State in East Lansing, Mich.
