2015 Big Ten Wrestling Championships: Jesse Delgado, Isaiah Martinez advance to semifinals

Illinois senior Jesse Delgado and redshirt freshman Isaiah Martinez have advanced to the Big Ten Wrestling Championships semifinal on Saturday.

Delgado earned a 6-3 decision over Ethan Lizak of Minnesota to make the final four at 125 pounds. Delgado has won the past two Big Ten championships and NCAA titles at the same weight. He will wrestle No. 3 seed Nathan Tomasello of Ohio State, who defeated Conor Youtsey of Michigan 5-2.

Martinez earned a first-round bye with the No. 1 overall seed before he picked up his NCAA Division I leading 10th technical fall this season with a 24-9 win over Luke Frey of Penn State. Martinez will wrestle Doug Welch of Purdue in the semifinals.

Zane Richards fell 3-1 in the final 10 seconds of his match to Jimmy Guilbon of Penn State to miss the semifinals. Also falling in the quarterfinal round was Jackson Morse at 165, a 10-5 decision to Pierce Harger of Northwestern; Zac Brunson at 174, a 5-2 decision to Logan Storley of Minnesota; Nikko Reyes at 184, a 6-4 decision to Domenic Abounader of Michigan and Brooks Black at heavyweight, a 5-1 decision to Adam Coon of Michigan.

These wrestlers will fight back in the consolation brackets. Session II starts at 6 p.m.

Nine of the 10 No. 1 seeds advanced. The lone No. 1 seed to fall was Iowa's Sam Brooks at 184, who lost 6-4 to Penn State's Matt McCutheon in the quarterfinals. Iowa has the most semifinalists with seven, followed by Minnesota with six. Ohio State and Penn State both have five.
