4-star 2016 running back Kentrail Moran commits to Illinois

No. 1 tailback in Illinois will stay in state.

Kentrail Moran, the top-ranked running back in the state of Illinois, took to Twitter to announce his commitment to the Fighting Illini on Saturday afternoon.

The O'Fallon, Ill. standout was limited by injuries to 342 yards on 99 carriers in four games as a junior last fall. He rushed for 1,130 yards and eight touchdowns as a sophomore on 225 carries, and caught 29 passes for 172 yards.

During his freshman season, he ran for 699 yards and six touchdowns on 138 carries. He also hauled in 22 receptions for 248 yards and a touchdown.

Moran made his unofficial visit to Illinois on the first day of spring practices for the Orange and Blue.

The 5-foot-10, 190-pound tailback held offers from Iowa, Kansas, Syracuse, Northern Illinois and Michigan among others. Moran's commitment comes on the heels of the Illini landing fellow 4-star running back Ke'Shawn Vaughn on National Signing Day, and former DeKalb (Ill.) back Dre Brown is already enrolled for the spring semester. Moran will boast an already promising backfield.

Moran is the second commitment for Tim Beckman's 2016 class, joining Rockford Auburn (Ill.) Juwuane Parchman.

Jacksonville (Fla.) Sandalwood quarterback Eli Peters, West Aurora (Ill.) Drake Spears, Naperville Central (Ill.) receiver Emmanuel Rugamba, Roselle Lark Park (Ill.) defensive tackle Mike Panasiuk, Nazareth Academy (Ill.) cornerback Julian Love and 2017 Naperville Neuqua Valley Isaiah Robertson also made the trek to Champaign this week.
