Illinois' Joe Spencer has been nominated for the Wuerffel Trophy, an award that recognizes a college football player for his outstanding work academically, athletically, and around the community. Spencer takes part in a number of community service projects. He's president of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee and participates in the Freshman Athlete Mentor Program just to name a few. You can also see Joe Spencer spending his time at the Boys and Girls and Special Olympics. He's quite the well-rounded athlete.

Semifinalists for the award are to be announced on November 3rd and the finalists on the 24th. The winner of the award will be announced on December 8th in New York City.
