The Champaign Room is looking for new writers

Are you a college student that's looking to lay the foundation for a career in sports journalism? Are you a devout sports fan that's looking to share your opinions? Do you want to join the best Illinois blog on the internet? Well I've got some good news: The Champaign Room is looking to add contributors and we'd love to have you join our team.

Here's the official job posting:

Illinois: The Champaign Room is looking for new contributors to help produce game day content and enhance the site's overall coverage of Fighting Illini basketball, football, and recruiting. Those with a passion about baseball, golf, and other non-revenue sports are more than welcome. Previous writing experience is preferred, but not required.

Below are some specifics on the two positions that I'm hoping to fill.

Game Day Editor (x1)

Ideal Candidate

  • Has strong knowledge about Illinois, both current and historical

  • Availability for all (read: most) Illinois basketball and football games

  • Possess solid social media skills, especially on Twitter

  • Possess strong writing skills

  • Is able to write and publish quickly while remaining accurate

  • Comfortable coordinating work efforts in a virtual environment

Potential Responsibilities

  • Publishing in-game updates (injury news, highlights, viral content, etc.)

  • Handling social media accounts during games

  • Publishing game recaps in a timely manner

  • Occasional writing on ‘off days' during the week

Contributor (x1)

Ideal Candidate

  • Has strong knowledge about Illinois, both current and historical

  • Possess strong writing skills

  • Possess solid social media skills, especially on Twitter

  • Comfortable working in a virtual environment

  • Is a self-starter who can work with minimal direction

  • Can identify news, decide what's important, and knows where to locate information

Potential Responsibilities

  • Publishing content on a regular basis (breaking news, game analysis, opinion columns, etc.)

  • Handling social media accounts

  • Collaborating with peers to produce multi-user content
