In a move that surprises absolutely no one, Tim Beckman announced today that Wes Lunt will be the starting quarterback for the Illinois Fighting Illini in their season opener against the Youngstown State Penguins. If you'd been paying any attention to what was happening in Rantoul or are a fan of logic, you knew this was coming.
Lunt started as a true freshman for the Oklahoma State Cowboys before losing his place on the depth chart due to injuries. Offensive coordinator Bill Cubit had tried recruiting him to Western Michigan, but let's be realistic, that was never going to happen with that talented of a QB.
But now the two will show us what they've been working on over the past year. Next Saturday should involve an obscene amount of passing, at least early. It's going to be a fun time. What does this mean for Aaron Bailey? We don't know yet, but he'll at least be a quarterback this year.
