Love The Illini? TCR is Looking to Add Writers

The Champaign Room is adding writers and we want YOU!

Bradley Leeb-USA TODAY Sports

Do you love the Illini? Do you have a passion for following sports?  Do you enjoy writing and/or storytelling? Do you want to help transform The Champaign Room into a top-notch online sports community? If so, we have an offer for you!

You may have noticed that Matt Silich and Mark Primiano have been working their asses off the past few months as they've really been the only ones providing you with content on TCR.  We need to give them some damn help!  Accordingly, we're looking to add 2-3 new writers to help cover what could be a big-time year for Illinois.

Our ideal writers will be able to publish topics of their choosing with minimal direction from the editors and myself.  They will also have the availability to meet weekly publishing requirements (1-2 articles/week).  Above all else, we want individuals who love Illinois sports and want TCR to be represented on the SB Nation network in the same light as the other top college sports properties.

In particular, we're looking to hear from those that follow Illinois football, Illinois basketball, and even the non-revenue sports (i.e. volleyball, golf, baseball, etc.).

Our ideal candidate:

  • Has strong knowledge about Illinois, both current and historical.
  • Possesses strong writing skills.
  • Has a nose for news, both in knowing what is important and identifying where to find it.
  • Is able to write and publish quickly while remaining accurate
  • Possesses solid interviewing/communication skills
  • Is able to write in line with our best practices for growing an audience.

Previous writing experience is preferred, but not required (take a look at Matt's comment below).  Hell, I didn't have much experience and I'm running the site now!  If you're passionate about the Illini, I highly suggest you at least give the position some thought.

Again, once the staff is operating at full capacity we'll be expecting about 1-2 articles/week from each writer.  If you're hesitant due to questions about the format of the SB Nation publishing system, don't be! You'll be provided with some training videos that will explain to you how everything operates.

So if you're interested in joining our team, or would just like more information, please email a resume and writing sample (something sports related, please) to me at jvainis2@illinois.edu.  I look forward to hearing from you!
