Turns out the rumblings were all right. Via Twitter, Ty Isaac announced that he will be transferring to Michigan to be a Wolverine instead of becoming a Fighting Illini. Poo-tee-weet.
It's not a surprising choice. Michigan is a better program than Illinois and Isaac's original choice of Southern Cal over everyone else shows that he values that name brand appeal. We wish him all the best.
The one thing I cannot wish him though? A hardship waiver. Isaac transferred closer to home to be near his mom who can no longer fly due to surgical complications. That's a fine reason to transfer somewhere. We were all supportive of Jay Prosch when he left us for Auburn for very similar reasons.
But Michigan is 260 miles from Shorewood. That is grossly over the 100 mile limit that a hardship waiver is supposed to cover. If Ahmad Starks couldn't get one because Champaign is slightly over 100 miles from Chicago, it's going to be a pretty hard pill to swallow watching Isaac get one at over 2.5 times that distance.
