Things are officially getting silly in a good way when it comes to Fighting Illini football recruiting. The past week resulted in running back Reggie Corbin and offensive lineman Adam Solomon both committing to Illinois. So it makes perfect sense that while we were all watching Tyrion's fate get decided on Game of Thrones and/or the Blackhawks head home for the summer, another offensive player decided to verbal.
Andrew Davis is a three-star tight end who comes to us from JUCO powerhouse Iowa Western Community College. He'll be the third Revier to become an Illini in the past three seasons, following in the footsteps of TE Dallas Hinkhouse and WR Geronimo Allison. Davis fits our tight end mold perfectly, coming in at 6'6" and 220 lbs. He was the 2nd rated JUCO tight end and chose Illinois over Texas. Read that again. Illinois. Over. Texas.
I mean, this is all getting a bit nutty. We still need defensive players to start committing, but it's obvious that the Bill Cubit/Wes Lunt effect is working. All six members of the 2015 class are offensive recruits. Davis' addition helps bump the Illini up to 40th in the nation, just behind Oklahoma State and Utah, while ahead of Washington State and Brigham Young. Even better though? It moves us up to 7th in the conference, pushing us into the top half. We're a four-star (any day now, David Edwards) away from vaulting Wisconsin and Michigan for 5th place.
