Illinois Wrestling: 6 Illini advance to Midlands Semifinals

Ninth-ranked Illinois is in second place with 90 points, trailing Iowa (110.5 points) after two sessions of the 52nd annual Midlands Championships. Six Fighting Illini wrestlers advanced to the semifinals in their respective weight classes while two are alive in the consolation brackets.

The biggest story of day one for Illinois was the absence of two-time defending NCAA champion Jesse Delgado, who was the pre seeded No. 1 at 125 before the tournament. It is not known why Delgado withdrew from competition.

The third session will begin at noon Tuesday, and the finals begin at 7 p.m.
