Illinois/Wisconsin Series Notes (FightingIllini.com):
This week's game marks the 81st meeting between the Fighting Illini and the Badgers. Wisconsin holds a 37-36-7 edge in the all-time series and has won eight of the last nine meetings. Illinois' lone victory in that stretch was by a 31-26 score over the fifth-ranked Badgers in Champaign in 2007.
Last season, the Illini pulled within 28-17 of the Badgers at halftime, but Wisconsin out-scored Illinois 14-0 in the third quarter to pull away for a 56-32 win at Memorial Stadium.
Wisconsin leads the series 20-16-4 in games played in Madison, including four straight victories at Camp Randall Stadium. Illinois' last win in Wisconsin was a 37-20 triumph in 2002.
In Illinois' last visit to Madison in 2012, the Illini and Badgers were tied 7-7 at halftime and UW held a slim 10-7 lead after three quarters. But a shanked UI punt led to one Wisconsin touchdown and a 59-yard pass from Joel Stave to Jared Abbrederis put another on the board as the Badgers pulled away for a 31-14 win.
The 1995 game between the Illini and Wisconsin holds historical significance as the last college football game to end in a tie when UI and UW finished the game knotted 3-3. Overtime rules were instituted the following season.
Illini head coach Tim Beckman is 0-2 against Wisconsin, while Badger head coach Gary Anderson is 1-0 against the Illini.
