Jawun Evans Commits to Oklahoma State

Oklahoma State has received a verbal commitment from 5-star Point Guard Jawun Evans.

Bradley Leeb-USA TODAY Sports

Today, top Illini target and 5-star PG Jawun Evans gave a verbal commitment to Oklahoma State; the decision came via an ESPN.com article.  Evans, a 6-foot Point Guard from Dallas, is the #20 overall recruit in the class of 2015 according to the 247sports Composite Rankings.  The Cowboys were selected over the likes of Illinois, Southern Cal, SMU, and Texas.

Here's a quick scouting report C/O Future150:

Evans has always been one of the fastest prospects in the country from end-to-end, but his skills have developed rapidly over the past year. His playmaking ability is fantastic and he has showed defensive prowess and an extremely high IQ. He has proved to be not only one of the most productive campers in attendance, but a national top 50 prospect as well.

Evans was one of the more eye-opening prospects on the AAU circuit this Summer.  His combination of scoring ability, vision, defense, and speed make him, arguably, the most complete floor general in the class of 2015.  Here are some of his recent highlights:

For Illinois, it'll be interesting to see how Evans' decision impacts the recruitment of fellow Texas native and 5* Center Elijah Thomas.  The two have stated that they'd like to play collegiate ball together, but there's been no official announcement of a "package deal."  Despite this chatter, Thomas declared Illinois his leader following his official visit to Champaign.  There have also been rumors of Jamal Murray, 4-star Point Guard from Canada, reclassifying from 2016 to 2015. If that happens, look for Illinois to be at or near the top of his list.  Illinois still has one remaining scholarship to give, so look for Coach Groce to remain active on the recruiting trail.

This announcement stings, but Illinois is still in a fantastic place.  The current 3-man class of Aaron Jordan (#105), D.J. Williams (#62), and Jalen Coleman-Lands (#33) checks in at #6 nationally (247Sports).
