The Weekend In B1G: Week Five

There were only four games this weekend as most of the Big Ten had bye weeks.

Raj Mehta-USA TODAY Sports

This is the traditional bye week for Big Ten teams. They take a week off to prepare for conference play. There are team out there who really don't care about tradition, and play anyways. Illinois was one of those teams, and they picked up an easy victory. Who else won?

Northern Illinois 55 Purdue (1-4) 24

Northern Illinois has now beaten two Big Ten schools, and tied the record for largest margin of victory for a MAC school over a Big Ten school. The Huskies scored on their first four possessions and forced five turnovers.

Purdue, we feel for you. Hang tough.

Iowa 23 (4-1) Minnesota (4-1) 7

Iowa out gained Minnesota 464-165 in this game. The Hawkeye's defense had a fantastic showing on the road, and the offense was able to gain 246 yards on the ground.

The Gophers were not as good of a team as their record showed. This is probably a seven win maximum squad.

Ohio State 31 (5-0) Wisconsin 24 (3-2)

The Buckeyes beat the Badgers to remain undefeated. Braxton Miller ran for 83 yards and was 17/25 for 199 yards in the passing game with 4 TDs in his return back to action.

It was a very close game. Wisconsin actually had more yards than Ohio St (399-390), but the Buckeyes were able to pull out the victory.

Jared Abbrederis had another ridiculous game for the Badgers (10 catches, 207 yards, 1 TD). I'm really scared of him going against the Illini's very shaky secondary in two weeks.
