As we first reported would happen on Tuesday, four-star point guard Quentin Snider committed to Illinois on Thursday night over UCLA.
Which is excellent news no matter how you want to look at it. John Groce has the point guard he's been looking for since he got here.
As for the recruitment of Snider, I have been in contact with my source every day this week. From what I was told, Steve Alford's in-home visit on Tuesday night after our original story was posted went very well for Alford and the Bruins, and had Snider considering both schools. However, after a few days of thinking about it, Illinois was obviously his choice.
Of course, none of that really matters anymore. It doesn't matter who reported what first, what matters is that Quentin Snider is a member of our 2014 recruiting class. What matters is that, after years of living in a bit of a recruiting desert, John Groce has landed two top 40 players in the last two weeks.
And just in case that isn't enough for you, you should know that the race for Cliff Alexander isn't over yet, either.
There are also some rumblings that we could soon have a commit in the 2015 class in the coming weeks.
The football team is winning on the field and the basketball team is winning on the recruiting trail. These are great times to be an Illini, folks. Hopefully they're just going to get better and better.
