Tim Beckman: 'We will not break the rules'

Tim Beckman wants to make sure everyone knows that, in light of the situation at Oklahoma State, the Illini will not be breaking any NCAA rules.

Bradley Leeb-USA TODAY Sports

As you are probably aware of right now, on Tuesday Sports Illustrated released the first part of a story alleging numerous NCAA violations against the Oklahoma State football program. Allegations that go back for years, even back to the days Les Miles was running the program.

Well, you're probably also aware that Tim Beckman was the defensive coordinator at Oklahoma State in 2007 and 2008. Now, Beckman said on Tuesday that he was "totally shocked" by the allegations in the Sports Illustrated story, which is a pretty good indicator that he isn't involved in the investigation.

He also wanted to make sure that Illini fans know that nothing like what Sports Illustrated is alleging will take place at Illinois.

"We will not be in trouble," the second-year coach told the Sun-Times on Tuesday. "We will not break the rules. I haven't ever done that as an assistant or as a head football coach. Our team and our coaching staff have done well [to follow NCAA rules]."

Which, you know, is good news. Beckman also said that he never had a player ask him for money or any other benefit while he was at Oklahoma State.

Honestly, I don't think anything that's going on at Oklahoma State will affect the Illini in any manner -- be it Beckman or Wes Lunt -- but I guess we won't know for sure until Sports Illustrated is finished releasing the entire story.

Which, seriously, releasing it in installments? What the hell?
