The commitments are coming in hard and fast.
I was sitting here writing up a post about the commitment of JUCO defensive back Tyree Stone-Davis -- who just so happens to be the twin brother of Tyrin Stone-Davis, who committed earlier this week -- when news broke that the Illini have also gotten a commitment from JUCO wide receiver Geronimo Allison.
WE'RE GETTING ALL THE JUCOS THIS WEEK, YOU GUYS.
Seriously, it's been a good couple of days around here.
We'll start with Stone-Davis, who as I mentioned, is the twin brother of Tyrin Stone-Davis. Except instead of playing receiver the 6'3 200-pound Tyree plays defensive back. Which is great size for a defensive back, and honestly it could be really fun watching the two twins going against one another in practice next year.
Stone-Davis had offers from San Diego State, Hawaii and Texas State. He also had some interest from schools like Tennessee, Cincinnati, Texas Tech and West Virginia according to 247Sports.com's profile on him.
And while I'm thrilled with Tyree's commitment, I'm even happier about Geronimo Allison's because his name is Geronimo. That's going to provide plenty of fodder for all of us. Oh, and he's probably going to help on the football field as well.
Allison checks in at 6'3 and 180 pounds. So, again, the Illini are not only adding a receiver, but a big receiver. The kind of big target that we just don't really have at the moment. Geronimo also comes from Iowa Western, which is where the Illini found guys like Martize Barr and Dallas Hinkhouse in last year's recruiting class. It's one of the premier junior college programs in the country.
Geronimo had offers from Kansas State, Iowa State, Colorado State and Louisiana Tech just to name a few. However it had been reported for a while he was debating between Kansas State and Illinois, so it's especially nice to see Illinois beating out the JUCO destination du jour that has been Kansas State under Bill Snyder.
The Wes Lunt Effect is real, folks.
