A pretty good weekend in Illinois sports got even better on Saturday night.
Sophomore Illinois wrestler Jesse Delgado defeated Penn State's Nico Megaludis by a score of 7-4 to become the NCAA national champion at 125 pounds. Jesse is the first Illinois wrestler to be named national champion at his weight class, and the first Illinois wrestler of any weight to win a national championship since Matt Lackey 2003.
Delgado was not the only successful Illini grappler this weekend, either. Though they didn't win national titles both Conrad Polz and Jordan Blanton earned All-America honors, meaning the Illini have now had All-American wrestlers for 21 consecutive years.
