D.J. Richardson Named Co-Big Ten Player Of The Week

If you help beat one of the best teams in the country you're a Big Ten Player of the Week this week.

USA TODAY Sports

Finally, D.J. Richardson has won the kind of accolade we were all expecting him to get plenty of during his freshman season.

The Big Ten announced on Monday morning that D.J. had been named co-Big Ten Player of the Week along with Wisconsin's Ben Brust.

It's not a big surprise considering the week Richardson had. In two games against Indiana and Minnesota D.J. played 70 minutes, scored 36 points and had 5 steals while shooting 50% from the floor and 54% from three. He also brought the Illini back nearly single-handedly in the final minutes against Indiana, as well as getting the steal that set up Tyler Griffey's winning layup.

It is the first time Richardson has been named the Big Ten's Player of the Week, and he's the first Illini to get the award since Tracy Abrams got it following the Auburn game.
