Illinois And Virginia Schedule Series In 2021, 2022

It's officially official now.

Paul Frederiksen-USA TODAY Sport

Remember two weeks ago when a leaked Big Ten document showed the Illini having future games scheduled against Virginia and Kansas? Well, at the time associate athletic director Kent Brown let us know that while the school was working on scheduling games, nothing was official yet.

Now one of them is official, as Virginia announced a home-and-home with Illinois in 2021 and 2022 on Wednesday.

The dates for the home-and-home series with Illinois are set for Sept. 11, 2021 in Charlottesville and Sept. 10, 2022 in Champaign. It will mark the third and fourth times the teams have met, but it will be the first time the two programs have faced off in the regular season.

Illinois also issued a release confirming shortly afterward.

"This series with Virginia is a great addition to our future schedules," said Mike Thomas. "We set out to schedule games against peer institutions and we were able to do that with this series."

The Illini have played Virginia twice in history, both of which were bowl games and both of which finished with the Illini winning. The last meeting came in the 1999 MicronPC.com Bowl, which used to be a bowl. Maybe you remember it. Maybe you don't.

This is what happens if you go to MicronPC.com right now.

Anyway, start making your plans for those Virginia games now. Hotels are filling up fast!
