I don't know if you heard, but Cliff Alexander made his official visit to Illinois over the weekend. It was kind of a big deal for those of us who care about Illinois basketball.
Well, if you had been expecting Alexander to commit to Illinois during the visit, you were naive, but just because you haven't heard anything doesn't mean the weekend didn't go well. In fact, Alexander's mother, Latilla Alexander, said things went quite well.
"It was great," she told Zagsblog. "We had a great time like all the other visits."
"The coaching staff was great. They really make you feel like a family, and that plays an important part in our decision. I need to know that my son is going to be taken care of on and off the court. He might just be Cliff Alexander to most people, but he's still my baby."
We'd love for him to be our baby, as well, Mrs. Alexander.
Looking to see if I could get any more information on Alexander's visit, I talked to somebody on Sunday night who echoed what Alexander's mother told Adam Zagoria. According to my source the Alexanders enjoyed themselves, and the Illini will truly be in this race until the end.
"The feeling I had going into the weekend was that this was coming down to Kansas and Illinois," said the source. "I'm nearly convinced that's the case now."
So what are our odds?
"50/50 at worst."
I don't know about you, but I'll take them.
As for when we're going to find out, if you haven't heard, there's been a date change on Alexander's announcement. The decision date has been moved up from November 16 to November 15. The move to a Friday is likely at the request of ESPN, which will broadcast the decision on national television.
It just makes a lot more sense for ESPN to broadcast Alexander's decision on a Friday afternoon after school than it would on a college football Saturday.
Now all we have to do is wait for that Friday afternoon to get here.
