Wow, this week has just been terrible for both basketball and football.
It was a week ago today that I highlighted three players in Illinois' 2013 recruiting class that could possibly decommit before signing day came. On Tuesday Reon Dawson became the first of those three players to do so, switching his commitment from Illinois to Michigan.
And on Thursday safety Joshua Jones became the second.
"I decommitted from Illinois today," Jones told Rivals. "I had a two-hour conversation with Coach [Tim] Beckman and Coach [Tim] Banks today. They came to school and to my house. They weren't too happy about the whole visit thing. So, out of respect for them, I told Coach Beckman about 30 minutes ago it would be best for me to decommit and take the rest of my visits."
Jones is looking at Pitt, North Carolina State and Colorado, with Pitt the favorite to land him. So that's who we're losing recruits to now. Middling ACC programs and fucking Colorado.
With both Jones and Reon Dawson leaving that leaves the Illini with five defensive backs in the current class. Which isn't bad, but still, the loss of Jones hurts.
Man we need something good to happen around here. And soon.
