I can't lie to you, I had entirely forgotten about the fact that we were getting a new scoreboard at Memorial Stadium for next season. The plans for the new scoreboard had been announced last year, but then a 2-10 season got in the way, erasing any semblance of joy from my mind -- at least when it comes to Illinois football -- and burying the scoreboard news.
But we're still getting a scoreboard. Bob Asmussen wrote an update about it today, as it will be installed at Memorial Stadium this spring and summer, and when it's finished we'll have ourselves a 125-foot wide and 54-foot tall scoreboard. There was also a mockup of what the scoreboard will look like in the paper as well, courtesy of @barton1086 (via @IllinoisLoyalty)
Even better? Aside from the scoreboard the stadium will also be getting three new ribbon boards, video boards and a new soundsystem.
You know what that means?
"No matter where you are sitting in the stadium, you will be able to see down, distance and score," Andrew Young told Asmussen.
Gee, what a novel concept.
